PART I OF A TW0-PART SERIES ON GOOGLE: How to Talk to Google

0

Unfortunately, all of these strategies are just approximations. There’s really not an exact way to measure the ROI of making a Google+ page.

But consider this: if Google can find you more easily with a Google+ business page, then everyone else will be able to as well.

How to Get Started

Now that we know why Google+ profiles are important for your zip line or canopy tour, here’s how to get your profile up and running:

  1. You’re going to need your own personal Google+ account before you can set up a business profile. (You might already have one if you’ve ever set up a Gmail account.)
  2. Once you’ve accomplished that, click here to set up your business page. You can also arrive at this screen from the dropdown menu on the left of your Google+ profile by selecting “Pages.”
  3. For adventure parks and zip lines, you’ll choose “Storefront” as your business type. Then you’ll be prompted to locate your business by typing it into Google Maps. (Remember Deep Forest Challenge, from the screen shot on page 2? They’re the course without a G+ profile currently. When they try to put their name into Google Maps, nothing will come up, and they’ll have to pinpoint themselves in the landscape.) To actually verify your address, check your email for a postcard from Google with further instructions.
  4. You’re almost there! Now it’s just a matter of branding your page and making sure it has all your up-to-date information, like your hours of operation and phone number.

Lessons Learned:

Google’s job is simple: show people trustworthy websites. As a marketer, your job is also simple: play the SEO game by Google’s rules.

Google+ is an easy way to prove to not only Google, but also your potential customers, that you have a reputable zip line or aerial adventure park.

Although there is no exact way to measure the impact of getting a Google+ page, it is possible to notice general changes in your SEO. If you haven’t already set up your Google+ business profile, record your site’s page rank before and after you sign up.
