Use an incognito or private window in the research to ensure that topics you’ve searched in the past are not influencing your results. If you use Google Chrome as your browser, do your research in an Incognito window. Here’s how you would enable private browsing for Safari, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla users.

There are also free tools that give you a general sense of how your SEO is performing. I like Moz’s Open Site Explorer. Just punch in your URL and check periodically to see if it improves over time.
