As part of a $240-million-dollar investment to improve the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) facilities and transform them into more year-round destinations, ADG Mountainsides, a division of Aquatic Development Group, has been selected to design and manufacture a new mountain coaster for the recreation complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, N.Y. A zip line complex and new base lodge will also be added.

The mountain coaster is expected to be complete in the fall of 2020. The 7600-foot-long track will mirror the 1980 Olympic bobsled run, with custom carts designed to match existing bobsleds. The course is designed to reach speeds of up to 25 mph and be a more family-friendly alternative to a ride on the Olympic bobsled run itself, on which visitors can reach speeds of more than 50 mph.

“Sports and tourism are the major industries for Lake Placid and the region,” said Mayor Craig Randall in an ORDA press release. “The investments that are being proposed for our recreational facilities are fully supported by the guests and spectators who come to the area.”
