Video Captures Zip Line Fail in Thailand

pb-0605-zip-line-fallHere’s a cautionary tale: An American zip liner captured harrowing video footage of a recent incident that left her male friend dangling several feet off the ground, clipped to her harness, after an employee forgot to connect her friend’s carabiner on a 1,300 foot zip line here.

Megan Reinhardt, whose video had more than 90,000 views on YouTube by June 1, shows her friend jumping from the platform before disappearing from view as the pair begin traversing down the zip line.

Later, the man is holding onto Reinhardt’s harness as the two continue to descend down the line. Reinhardt can be heard shouting for the guides to connect her friend. The pair are unable to make it to the landing platform.

Guides eventually make their way to the pair, and one guide rappels down to the hapless zipper, and tries for several minutes to connect to him to the zip line for several minutes. Once the guides arrive, tensions ease and Reinhardt and her friend can be heard laughing about the precarious situation. Guides eventually push the pair toward the next platform and they are pulled to safety.

While that in itself is caution enough, the collection of other zip line failures is a reminder of the need for constant vigilance.
