Shawn Tierney, executive director of the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), will step down from his position in April 2022. Tierney has led ACCT for the past five years, during which time the organization has shored up its finances, revised its ANSI/ACCT standards, launched the operations accreditation program, and conducted a virtual national conference amid the pandemic, among other accomplishments.
“Serving ACCT for the past 5 years has been a tremendous experience for me both personally and professionally, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to lead the association in this capacity,” Tierney wrote in an email to ACCT members. “I’m announcing my departure now so the board of directors has ample time to conduct a thorough search for the ideal candidate who can take the association to the next level by building upon the strong organizational structure and financial foundation that I will leave behind.”
He continued, “I’m fully committed to remaining as the ED for the next year, focusing on the board’s fiscal year organizational priorities, supporting our staff and volunteers, and leaving the organization in a strong and healthy position for the next executive director.”
Tierney said that the ACCT board will outline its thoughts on the transition in leadership and the hiring process, and open the executive director’s position, in the near future.
