Chestnut Mountain’s Soaring Eagle zipline.

In the Midwest, two ski areas—Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, Ill., and Cannonsburg ski area in Belmont, Mich.—recently opened new zip lines. Chestnut opened its Soaring Eagle zip line in August, the latest of several other recent attractions added to lure more summer visitors. The two-seat zip line is 800 feet long and 100 feet high.

Prices start at $15 for one ride for singles, or $25 for two rides for two people. A $40 adventure pass offers a single ride on the zip line, plus unlimited rides on the area’s Alpine Slide and one round of miniature or disc golf.

Meanwhile, Cannonsburg’s 10-station canopy tour offers more than a mile of zips ranging from 300 to 600 feet long. Speeds of up to 50 mph can be reached. Tickets cost $45 for a three-hour tour.
