After years of planning, Lawson Adventure Park opened this summer in the whitewater rafting hub of Dumont, Colo., just 30 minutes outside of Denver. The new operation is home to several activities including an eight-element challenge course, climbing wall, Via Ferrata, ZORBing, and disc golf.

“We wanted to complement the rafting primarily and then recently in the last few years, the zip lines as well,” said owner Greg Books. “We feel like [the area]is already a destination, and we really wanted to add some symbiosis and complement what was already going on here.”

The park covers 42 acres and plans for expansion are already in the works. Though for now, guests have fourteen different family-friendly activities to choose from. The park offers combo packages that provide access to three to six different activities, an all-activities day pass, season passes, and a la carte pricing for individual activities.

As of July, lodging is available in cabins, yurts, and campsites. In addition, condos are being constructed and are expected to be ready for occupancy by August.

Lawson marketing director John Sherwood is already exploring partnerships with neighboring adventure companies to offer guests more variety during their visit. “We’re trying to work with the rafting, zip lining, and ATV tour companies in Clear Creek to develop co-op opportunities where you can come to our park, do a couple of activities, but still go [on an ATV tour],” said Sherwood.
