Cape Cod from the Treetops

A new aerial adventure park on Cape Cod, Heritage Aerial Adventure in Sandwich, Mass., is set to open in May. Operator and designer, Outdoor Ventures of Fairfield, Ct., is building a five-trail aerial course at the Heritage Museum and Gardens. Each course will feature about a dozen elements of varying degrees of difficulty including tunnels, moving planks, zip lines, rope walks, and similar features.

The course is being built on four wooded acres where world-famous rhododendron hybridizer Charles Dexter created hundreds of varieties of plants that now form Heritage’s internationally recognized collection.

Officials say the new aerial adventure allows visitors to experience the tree canopy and views of the gardens. On the ground, interpretive trails will guide visitors through the landscape. The project has had some controversy with opposition from neighbors.
