Four-Level Ropes Course Planned for Rotorua, New Zealand

A new four-level ropes course and adventure hub is in development at the Waipā Mountain Bike Park in Rotorua, New Zealand. The project has obtained a commercial building consent from the Rotorua Lakes Council valued at NZ$1.7 million (US$1.1 million) and is now finalizing funding.

The multi-level attraction will be 65 feet tall and manufactured by KristallTurm.

The project is the brainchild of Ropes and Thrills Rotorua founder Alex Schmid, who told the NZ Herald that he wanted to create an affordable experience for groups and families. The experience is expected to cost an adult NZ$37 (US$24) for two hours.

The attraction is also expected to create 15-20 part-time and full-time jobs and serve as complement to Rotorua’s robust tourism offerings, which include Maori cultural experiences, geothermal parks, spa and wellness retreats, and variety of adventure activities such as whitewater rafting and bungee jumping.
