Sequoia Park in Eureka, Calif., will have a new, unique attraction set to be completed this fall that will offer visitors an elevated experience among 250-foot-tall redwood trees near the park’s zoo.
The Redwood Sky Walk is currently under construction by the team from Synergo, which has been contracted to build the attraction that was originally designed by Greenway Partners. When complete, the Sky Walk will be a network of suspended bridges connected to platforms that encircle old growth and mature second growth redwood trees within and beyond the zoo’s border.
At its highest point, one bridge will be 100 feet from the forest floor. Most of the Sky Walk will be about 60 feet above the ground. Total distance for the eco-adventure will be 1,090 linear feet. The platforms are made of natural colored aluminum.
The project is a component of phase two of the park’s master plan, which also includes an additional animal exhibit. While the project is slated to be complete by October, zoo management isn’t sure when it will open to the public due to the pandemic.
