Petzl Recalls Several Harness Models Over Possible Buckle Failure

Adventure Park Insider—Salt Lake City, Utah, March 6, 2025—Petzl is recalling several harnesses sold in the U.S., Canada, and Europe due to a defect in certain batches of the Fast LT buckle, which could lead to a fatal fall. Petzl requests that anyone who owns these harnesses stop using them immediately.

The harnesses include certain batches of the U.S./Canada Swan Easyfit Steel harnesses (references C062AA00 and CO62AA01) and Swan Easyfit Stainless harnesses (references C062BA00 and C062BA01), as well as certain batches of the European Newton (references C073AA01 C073AA02), Newton Fast (references C073CA01 and C073CA02), and Newton Easyfit (references C073EA00, C073EA01, and C073EA02) manufactured in 2022.

Note that International versions of the Newton, Newton Fast, and Newton Easyfit harnesses, which were sold primarily on the North American market, use different Fast LT buckles and are not affected by the recall.

The risk is that the Fast LT buckles can break and, depending on the model (Swan or Newton), the user may be able to completely exit the harness (Swan), or the harness can become unfastened from its dorsal attachment point (Newton). However, Petzl notes that the company is not aware of any incidents due to Fast LT buckle failures.

Petzl asks that all affected harnesses be removed from service and returned to the company. Petzl will inspect the harnesses and either replace them with a new harness or, if the harness does not have nonconforming buckles, return them as is. Petzl is responsible for all shipping costs.
