Adventure Park Insider—Yorba Linda, Calif., May 16, 2025—A shooting at an RV park adjacent to the Orange County Ropes Course on Sunday, May 5, serves as a reminder that aerial adventure operations must be prepared for the unusual and unexpected at all times, and be able to evacuate participants and staff quickly.

According to a report on Los Angeles ABC7, an argument between two people at the Canyon RV Park, which owns the ropes course, led to violence. One of the two left the park only to return and attempt to run over one person before shooting two and then turning the gun on himself. All three were transported to the local hospital; their conditions are not available.

The local report said hundreds of people were at the park at the time of the shooting, including 25 to 30 children attending a birthday party on the ropes course.

“All of a sudden it was, ‘Hit the ground. Get down. Everyone get down,'” a witness said. Canyon RV Park declined to provide any details to API; a staff member said, “We’re not talking about it.”

The Orange County Ropes Course consists of two zip lines and 32 ground, low, and high ropes features up to 60 feet high. It offers experiential programming tailored to a wide variety of groups, from corporate teams to birthday parties.

The RV park and ropes course are the only businesses that operate in the Featherly Regional Park in Santa Ana Canyon, where the incident occurred.
