The Outdoor Ventures adventure park on Cape Cod, The Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens, is allowed to reopen after being shuttered for five years, thanks to a Barnstable Superior Court decision that upheld the park’s special permit.
“We’re thrilled to announce that, after a long hiatus, The Adventure Park at Heritage Museums & Gardens has secured the ability to reopen,” said Museum president Anne Scott Putney. “We are working toward an April 2024 opening, with the exact date to be announced in early 2024.”
The park, which has roughly 80 treetop platforms connected by bridges, ladders, zip lines, and other crossings, has been closed since August 2018, after residents sued and the court ruled that the aerial park did not meet the definition of an “educational exhibit,” as it was described in the Museum’s special permit.
The Museum then changed the designation to small-scale outdoor recreational facility and received a new special permit. Local opponents appealed that decision, but the court ruled that such a facility is allowed.
“I would truly like to thank our community members who have been supportive of the Adventure Park, for those who have enjoyed it, and certainly for those who have waited patiently along with us for a decision,” said Putney.
